Shimla, September 19: The National Highway-5 (NH-5) blocked at Nigulsari in Kinnaur district has been restored after a 24-hour shutdown. The blockade was caused after a 65-metre portion of the road collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, halting vehicular movement, including trucks carrying apples and peas, which are crucial to the region’s economy.

The National Highways Authority worked tirelessly overnight and resumed operations early Wednesday morning. By 12 noon, a new path was made for the collapsed portion and traffic flow was restored. Vehicular movement has now resumed, easing the inconvenience caused to traders and travellers.

Meanwhile, the weather in Himachal Pradesh continues to remain inclement. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, forecasting heavy rains. High-altitude areas, including the Rohtang Pass, also received snowfall, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures. Most of the districts including the state capital Shimla remained cloudy and the maximum temperature recorded a significant drop. Locals have started feeling cold due to the increase in cold in the morning and evening weather.

As of Wednesday evening, 32 roads and 26 power transformers were not working in various parts of the state. Though more rain is expected in some parts of Himachal on Thursday, the weather is expected to clear by September 20, bringing some relief to residents and travellers.
