Shimla, September 02: Himachal Pradesh is going to become the first state in India to launch the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) service. From September 5, Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) will launch this service in collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI). With the NCMC card, passengers will be able to pay fares not only in HRTC buses but also in metro services in cities like Delhi and Bengaluru.

This initiative is an important step towards integrating transport services across the country. The NCMC card, which can also be used for retail shopping, will provide great convenience to tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh from both India and abroad. The central government is planning to extend the NCMC card service to all state transport undertakings across the country.

HRTC Managing Director Rohan Thakur confirmed that the NCMC card service will be formally inaugurated on September 5. “With this card, passengers can pay fares in HRTC buses, metro services and even use it for retail shopping,” Thakur said. Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, are working on introducing NCMC cards, but Himachal Pradesh will be the first state to launch the service. HRTC will also become the first state transport undertaking in the country to offer this card. The service will be officially launched by the chief minister and deputy chief minister in the presence of cabinet colleagues at the assembly complex.

One of the major advantages of the NCMC card is that it will save passengers from having to stand in queues for bus and metro tickets. Fares can be paid by swiping the card at the ticket counter or at the high-tech ticketing machines given to HRTC conductors. Amounts ranging from ₹100 to ₹10,000 can be loaded on the card, though the exact value of the card is yet to be decided.
