Shimla, August 29: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday reviewed the progress of the one megawatt capacity Green Hydrogen plant under construction at Nalagarh in Solan district with senior officials of the Energy Department. While chairing the meeting, he directed the officials to expedite the construction process. He said that the tender for the project should be allotted soon and a deadline should be set to complete the construction work of the plant by the end of the year 2025.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is working with commitment to make Himachal Pradesh a green energy state by March 31, 2026. This green hydrogen plant will prove to be a milestone in achieving this ambitious goal. He said that in the present context, the demand for green hydrogen is continuously increasing in various industries. Green hydrogen provides a clean alternative to fossil fuels in sectors like transportation, manufacturing and energy storage. By producing green hydrogen with zero carbon emission, this project will play an important role in reducing carbon emissions in industries and power sector and will also ensure environmental protection.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that green hydrogen will reduce the emission of harmful pollutants like nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide and particulate matter. This will improve air quality and also protect the ecosystem.
Reiterating the commitment of the state government towards environmental protection, the Chief Minister said that the state government has taken many innovative steps to establish Himachal Pradesh as a clean and green state during its tenure of 20 months. In this direction, he laid the foundation stone of the pilot project of Green Hydrogen Mobility Station to be constructed at Chamba at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore.
Besides this, a 32 MW solar power plant has already been installed at Pekhubela in Una district and two more solar power plants are expected to be started in the next six months. He directed the department to intensify efforts to increase solar energy exploitation in the state.
