Himachal: 21st livestock census to begin from September 1
The 21st livestock census will begin in Himachal Pradesh from September 1. For its preparations, a one-day training workshop was organized for nodal officers and supervisors by the Animal Husbandry Department of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh in Shimla.
Shimla, August 21: The 21st livestock census will begin in Himachal Pradesh from September 1. For its preparations, a one-day training workshop was organized for nodal officers and supervisors by the Animal Husbandry Department of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh in Shimla.
In the workshop, the employees of the department were given information regarding the census. Livestock is counted every five years. This time the digital revolution will also play an important role in the livestock census. Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar attended the workshop as the chief guest.
Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar said that according to the livestock census conducted in 2019, there were a total of 44 lakh animals in Himachal, of which 25 lakh are cattle, while 19 lakh are sheep and goats. Himachal is neglected despite being an agricultural state. The minister said that the census should not be a mere formality but should be done with correct data, only then future policy formulation is possible. VP Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Government of India was specially present in the program.
