Nahan, August 11: The state government will set up a state level model de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at Kotla Barog in Pachhad sub-division of Sirmaur district. This de-addiction centre will help people suffering from drug addiction and help them overcome their dependence on drugs and lead a happy and healthy life again in the society with self-reliance.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to deal with drug abuse, the Chief Minister said that the state government has taken various steps to make the youth aware about the danger of drugs, aimed at saving them from drug addiction. He said that in today’s era, keeping the youth away from drugs is the biggest challenge. He said that the society should also boost the morale of people suffering from drug addiction, so that they can give up drug abuse with strong willpower.

Sukhu said that the de-addiction centre is part of a comprehensive strategy to eliminate the use of synthetic drugs in both rural and urban areas. He said that the aim of the de-addiction centre is to deal with the serious social and health issues arising out of this crisis by providing a wide range of services in a single complex.

The de-addiction centre will also provide rooms, toilets, food arrangements, recreational space, library, gymnasium and facilities for sports, meditation and yoga. Apart from this, the centre will also provide essential services like skill development and vocational training and in-house treatment, food, clothing and laundry. He said that this holistic approach aims to standardize critical support and rehabilitation services for drug addicts.

The Chief Minister said that this centre will have a facility of 100 beds for men and women struggling with addiction. The aim of this centre is to keep the youth of the state away from drugs and ensure positive contribution to the society. The site selected for the de-addiction centre is spread over 157 bighas and 07 biswas. The existing buildings here can be reused with minor repairs, while a plan for additional infrastructure has also been prepared. The Public Works Department has been entrusted with the task of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) to take the work forward.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the establishment of this centre reflects the government’s commitment to combat drug abuse and bring such people into the mainstream. He said that after the detailed project report (DPR) is finalized, the state government will provide adequate funds for the construction of the model de-addiction and rehabilitation centre.
