Orange alert for heavy rain in Himachal for the next 24 hours, warning of flash flood in seven districts

Shimla, August 06: The monsoon which is causing havoc in Himachal Pradesh will show even more fierce attitude. There is a possibility of heavy rain in the next 24 hours across the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert regarding this. Along with this, a warning of flash flood has been issued in seven districts. This warning has been given for Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Shimla districts.

According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, Orange alert has been issued for the next 24 hours i.e. on August 7, Yellow on August 8 and 9, Orange on August 10 and Yellow on August 11 and 12. During the orange alert, there is a possibility of landslides and flash floods due to more rainfall than the yellow alert. In view of this, local people and tourists coming from outside have been advised to take precautions. People have been appealed not to go to landslide prone areas. Also, instructions have been given to keep distance from rivers and streams.

According to the State Emergency Operations Center, 85 roads including two national highways are closed due to landslides caused by rain in many parts of the state. Apart from this, 116 electricity transformers and 65 drinking water schemes are also stalled. 35 roads are closed in Mandi, 20 in Kullu, eight in Shimla, six in Lahaul-Spiti, five each in Kangra and Sirmaur, four in Kinnaur and two in Chamba. National Highway-5 in Kinnaur and National Highway 505 in Lahaul-Spiti are blocked.

Electricity is out due to shutdown of 103 transformers in Mandi. At the same time, 53 water schemes are stalled in Kullu district. Last night, 66 mm rainfall was recorded in Bharwain, 56 mm in Ghaghas, 53 mm in Joginder Nagar, 52 mm in Salaper, 46 mm in Gohar, 40 mm in Una and 35 mm in Bilaspur.

Rescue operation continues for the sixth day in search of missing people in Samej-

After the cloudburst in Samej of Rampur area of ​​Shimla district, the search for missing people is continuing for the sixth day. Rescue teams have recovered two bodies from Dogri near Sunni Dam on Monday. Both the bodies have been recovered in a mutilated state and they could not be identified. Earlier on Sunday, two unidentified bodies were also found on the banks of Satluj river in Rampur. Rescue teams have recovered five unidentified bodies so far. The administration is taking DNA samples of flood victims to identify the bodies.

It is worth noting that the flood caused by cloudburst on the midnight of 31st July has caused huge devastation in Samej village. Many houses, schools and health centres were also washed away in the accident. 36 people went missing after the accident. Rescue teams have been searching for the missing people for the last five days. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a relief amount of Rs 50,000 to the affected families and Rs 5,000 for renting a house.
