Shimla, July 28: A private nursing home operating in a residential house in Shimla’s suburb Tutu is being shut down following an order from the Municipal Corporation. The house, owned by a former Congress MLA, was converted into a nursing home without the required permission, which is in violation of zoning rules that prohibit commercial activities in residential areas.
The nursing home, which was being run by someone other than the landlord, was operating illegally. The Municipal Corporation has issued orders to shut down the nursing home and cut off the power and water supply of the house. According to Municipal Corporation officials, these facilities will be restored only after the nursing home is shut down while ensuring compliance with residential zoning rules.
In a massive crackdown on unauthorised constructions, the municipal corporation has targeted six property owners indulging in illegal construction activities. Municipal commissioner Bhupendra Atri disposed of 59 cases related to illegal constructions in a court session on Saturday, of which judgments were pronounced in nine cases.
A notable case was of a two-storey house in Sanjauli, which was constructed without an approved map. The owner did not take the necessary permission, due to which the structure was ordered to be demolished immediately. In another case in Sanjauli, a property owner secretly constructed an additional floor to the existing three-storey building. This additional construction has also been ordered to be demolished.
Apart from this, action was taken against buildings in Middle Bazaar and Panthaghati, where the height of two properties was increased illegally. The Municipal Corporation has ordered the demolition of these additional constructions, including balconies and other extensions, to ensure compliance with building rules.
These enforcement actions highlight the Municipal Corporation’s commitment to upholding zoning and building regulations. Unauthorized construction and illegal commercial activities pose significant risks, including safety hazards and disruption of planned urban development. The proactive stance of municipal officials aims to ensure compliance and maintain the integrity and safety of both residential and commercial areas.
The Municipal Corporation’s stringent measures serve as a warning to other property owners who may consider circumventing the rules. The crackdown on illegal activities emphasizes the importance of compliance with municipal regulations and the potential consequences of violations.
