Maneesh Garg said that as per the information received through Poll Day Monitoring System (PDMS) at the state headquarters, about 70.5 percent voting was recorded in the three assembly constituencies till 6 pm.

Shimla, July 10: Chief Electoral Officer of Himachal Pradesh Maneesh Garg thanked the voters for making the election process a success by ensuring their participation in it. He also thanked all categories of voters including young voters participating for the first time, elderly voters, women voters and Persons with Disabilities voters for showing interest in voting and contributing to the democratic process.

Maneesh Garg said that as per the information received through Poll Day Monitoring System (PDMS) at the state headquarters, about 70.5 percent voting was recorded in the three assembly constituencies till 6 pm. He said that people started leaving their homes early in the morning and reaching the polling stations and 15.99 percent voting was recorded from the start of voting till 11 am, which increased to 48.52 percent till 1 pm, while it was recorded at about 70.5 percent till 6 pm.

He said that as per the information received till 6 pm, the highest polling of about 78 percent was recorded in Nalagarh assembly constituency of Solan district, 67.7 percent in Hamirpur and 65.42 percent in Dehra. He said that the final figures of voting percentage will be released only after all the polling parties return and scrutiny of documents.

He said that 13 candidates were in the fray for the assembly by-elections, out of which two are women candidates. Five candidates each contested from Dehra and Nalagarh assembly constituencies while three candidates contested from Hamirpur. He said that for real time monitoring of the entire voting process, 315 polling stations were covered through live web casting, which was being continuously monitored through control rooms established at the state, district and assembly constituency level. In Himachal Pradesh, 06 polling stations were operated entirely by women, 01 by Persons with Disabilities and 03 by youth.

He informed that in addition to this, 09 model polling stations were set up. The Chief Electoral Officer informed that in addition to the voting in Himachal Pradesh, 1523 voters above 85 years of age and 348 Persons with Disabilities voters have already cast their votes through home voting.

After the announcement of by-elections on June 10, 2024, the code of conduct came into force in Hamirpur district, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh, till the day of polling, seizures worth about Rs 3.4 crore were made in joint action taken by the enforcement agencies of Police, Income Tax, State Tax and Excise, Forest and Industry departments.
