Himachal Assembly by-election: Nearly 60 percent voting till 3 pm, highest 63.7 percent voting in Nalagarh
According to the State Election Department, nearly 60 per cent voting has been recorded in all three constituencies till 3 pm. Nalagarh recorded the highest 63.7 per cent voting, Hamirpur 56.96 per cent and Dehra 55.3 per cent.
Shimla, July 10: Voting for by-elections in Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh assembly constituencies of the state is continuing smoothly and peacefully. Voting started at 7 am in all three constituencies and will continue till 6 pm. According to the State Election Department, nearly 60 per cent voting has been recorded in all three constituencies till 3 pm. Nalagarh recorded the highest 63.7 per cent voting, Hamirpur 56.96 per cent and Dehra 55.3 per cent.
The pace of voting was very slow in the morning and only 16 percent voting was recorded in the first two hours. 32 percent voting was recorded till 11 am and 48 percent by 1 pm. The results of the by-elections will be declared on July 13.
More than 2 lakh 55 thousand 4 hundred voters are exercising their votes in all three assembly constituencies. 13 candidates are trying their luck in all three constituencies. Five candidates each are in the fray in Kangra and Nalagarh, while three candidates are in the fray in Hamirpur.

According to the Election Commission, there are a total of 78095 voters in Hamirpur assembly constituency. Similarly, there are 94755 voters in Nalagarh and 86520 voters in Dehra.
The main contest on these three seats is between Congress and BJP. From Dehra assembly constituency, there is a contest between Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur, Congress candidate, and BJP’s Hoshiyar Singh.
At the same time, in Hamirpur, BJP’s Ashish Sharma and Congress’s Dr. Pushpinder Verma, while in Nalagarh, Congress’s Hardeep Singh Baba and BJP candidate K.L. Thakur’s political fate will be sealed in EVM today.
Hamirpur is the home district of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and former Union Minister and MP Anurag Singh Thakur, hence this by-election has become a question of prestige for both the leaders.
