Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Bilaspur, April 07: District Journalist Association Bilaspur has taken strict cognizance of the brutal beating of journalists by the police in Anni of Kullu district. With this effect, an emergency meeting was organized at the local Paridhi Griha on Sunday. District head Ram Singh presided over the meeting.

In the meeting, District Head Ram Singh said that this is an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy, which cannot be justified in any way. He said that Anni’s journalists were doing their work, but due to fear of being exposed, the police first called the journalists to the police station and then threatened them.

When the journalists remained adamant on their point, the police used force. He said that the injury marks on the bodies of the journalists themselves indicate that the police had beaten them like professional criminals.

He said that this incident cannot be condemned in a civilized society. The police personnel called the journalists to the police station and beat them mercilessly. He said that since the matter is related to journalism, the government should take strict cognizance of this matter and take the strictest action against the guilty police personnel by implementing punitive action.

Pradhan said that an FIR should be registered against the police officers and employees who brutally beat up innocent journalists, so that further action can be taken impartially. He said that if this kind of environment is created in the state by the officers and employees holding constitutional posts, then anarchy will definitely spread. When the journalists who raise the voice of the society will not be safe then who will protect the interests of the people today.

District Journalist Association General Secretary Vijay Kumar said that on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, a meeting of the District Journalist Association will be organized at Paridhi Griha in Bilaspur In which all the journalists from across the district will gather and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Government and the Director General of Police through District Magistrate Bilaspur, so that justice can be done to the victims.

During this, senior journalists Arun Dogra, Anil Patial, Arun Chandel, Anoop Sharma, Sunil Thakur, Shubham Thakur and Dharampal etc. were present in the meeting.
