Even though the budget presented by the Himachal Pradesh government is considered to be in the interest of all sections of society, no provision has been made in the budget for the media which plays the role of working shoulder to shoulder with all the schemes of the Himachal government to reach the common people.
The demand for digital media policy is being raised continuously in Himachal, but Himachal Pradesh government is neither making a permanent policy for media workers nor has any facility of accommodation and pension been provided in the current budget.
Sirmaur Press Club Nahan President Shailendra Kalra, General Secretary Satish Sharma and Spokesperson Surat Pundir issued a statement saying that on one hand the Himachal government considers media as the fourth pillar of democracy, while on the other hand the budget does not provide any kind of compensation for media workers.
Expressing disappointment over the budget, the official of Sirmaur Press Club said that the Himachal government expects the media to cooperate with the government every moment in taking the schemes to the people, whereas the media is being ignored in the budget.
Criticizing the negligence of the Himachal government, the officials said that the government should make a media policy for the media personnel in Himachal Pradesh on the lines of Haryana Government, in which accommodation and pension facilities should be available for the media personnel even at the district level.
Officials of Sirmaur Press Club have demanded from the Himachal Pradesh Government that in view of the difficult geographical situation in the state, the Himachal Government should make a digital media policy on the lines of Haryana Government, so that the media personnel can also get some benefits after retirement after working in their field.
Officials of Sirmaur Press Club demanded from the Himachal Government that some benefits should be ensured by the government to the media personnel through the Public Relations Department, which should be paid monthly to the media personnel. Apart from this, benefits of payment of medical bills and other facilities should also be provided in case of illness.
