Himachal News: Tenure Of Nominated Members Of 61 Cantonment Areas Across The Country Including Himachal Extended By One Year, Notification Issued

The tenure of nominated members in 56 cantonment councils of India as well as six cantonments of Himachal Pradesh has been extended by one year again by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The office of nominated members in all the six cantonments of Himachal Pradesh was to end on February 10.

An important decision has been taken by the Ministry of Defense of the Government of India to once again extend the tenure of the nominated members by one year in all the 56 Cantonment Councils of India as well as in all the six cantonments areas of Himachal Pradesh.

The office of nominated members in all the six cantonments of Himachal Pradesh was to end on February 10. Rakesh Mittal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, told Diary Times correspondent Kumud Sharma that from February 11, the tenure of the nominated members of all the 56 Cantonment Councils of India has been extended by one year.

Now the nominated members will be invited to all the important meetings of the Cantonment Board for the next one year.

It is noteworthy that In these days, the entire process of merging the civil area of Indian cantonment with Panchayati Raj is being carried out in full swing by the Defense Ministry of the Government of India. Due to which no election related work can be done in all the 56 cantonments of India. As of now, efforts are underway to exclude the civil sector of 31 cantonments out of the approximately 61 cantonment areas of India. An important decision to extend the tenure of all nominated members until the cantonments are merged into the municipal body has been taken by the Ministry of Defense of the Government of India.

All six cantonment areas of Himachal Pradesh –

A total of six cantonment areas namely Bakloh, Dalhousie in Chamba district, Kasauli, Dagshai, Subathu in Solan district and Jutog in Shimla district come under the Ministry of Defense of the Government of India.
