Turkish presidential elections 2023: runoff likely as Erdogan’s vote share drops below 50 percent

Turkish presidential elections 2023: After the elections in Turkey, the results have started coming. But this time the path seems very difficult for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The vote share of Erdogan, who has ruled Turkey for two decades, has fallen below 50 per cent. If any candidate receives less than 50 per cent of the vote in the first round of voting, a runoff will be held on 28 May.

According to the preliminary results, President Erdogan is number one with 49.94 percent of the votes, while Kilicdaroglu is in second place with 44.1 percent. It is reported that Erdogan has got a slight lead in Istanbul. At the same time, Erdogan greeted supporters after leaving his residence in Uskudar, Istanbul district.

According to a media report, Kilicdaroglu got the most votes in his hometown of Tunceli. With only 15 percent of the votes left to be counted in Istanbul, Kilikdaroglu is leading by a narrow margin.
