Winning Orleans Masters is big moment for me: Shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat
Indian men’s singles shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat won his maiden Tour title by defeating Denmark’s Magnus Johansson in the final of the Orleans Masters 2023 in France on Sunday. The 21-year-old Priyanshu beat Denmark 21-15, 19-21, 21-16 in a thrilling men’s singles final that lasted one hour and eight minutes.
It is the first BWF Super 300 title for Rajawat, who was also the youngest team member of the Indian badminton team that won the historic 2022 Thomas Cup in Bangkok last year.
Priyanshu made a dominant start in the final without giving Magnus any chance to make a comeback in the first game. The Indian was leading 11-8 at the halfway stage of the opening game and took advantage of the lead to take the first game.
Despite Priyanshu making a strong comeback (17-17) the second game started close and Magnus held the lead and lost the third game to win the match and the title.
“I’m very happy. It’s a really big moment for me, winning the Orleans Masters, my first BWF World Tour Super 300 title. 58 after a remarkable win.
Priyanshu has four BWF International Challenge/Series titles to his credit, while finishing runner-up at the 2022 Odisha Open, a BWF Super 100 event.
