The National Education Policy (NEP) came in 2020. It is the New Education Policy of India. This policy has made many changes in the last education policy. Some changes are as follows:

  • The current structure 10+2 is changed to 5+3+3+4.
  • This first stage is 5 years of the foundational stage.
  • Middle has 3-year stages
  • The 4 years will pass by as a secondary stage.

This policy focuses on various aspects of the development of children. It includes social, motor, physical, cultural, communication, artistic, and various development aspects. This policy emphasizes extending the use of the local language or mother to class 8 or beyond.

To improve the better overall learning of children, this structure also includes a strong base of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) for children of age 3 to 6 years.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION (ECCE)

According to this structure, the minimum age of a kid’s admission is 3 years for nursery, four years for LKG, and 5 years for UKG. This lets the kid go through 3 years of foundation before entering class I.

DRAWBACKS

This policy is beneficial in many ways but also has a few drawbacks which can be lost in kids’ future.

A few drawbacks are:

  1. THE AGE CRITERIA

Those kids which are born before September 1st are considered for admission in the nursery. This results in a loss of the year for the kids born after September 1st. Thus, kids born after September 1st are not eligible for admission. This causes a back of one year for those kids compared to others. This back of one year will also affect kids in the future.

  • FEWER CHANCES IN VARIOUS EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

As there are age criteria in every sport, like under twelve years, under fourteen years, and many more. The kid with late admission due to date of birth criteria will get less opportunity in the different age categories.

  • LATE COMPLETION OF EDUCATION

Due to late admission, the kid will complete their entire education late. Loss of one year will result in late graduation also. This also affects the service period of an individual in a job.

  • FEWER ATTEMPTS IN VARIOUS ENTRANCE EXAMS

Due to the back of one year, children will get fewer attempts to make various entrance exams of the country, like, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), Union Public Service Commission (UPSE), and many more. As the attempts of all these national exams have age criteria, thus this causes loss for the children born after September 1st.

  • EARLY RELIEF FROM THE GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Every government service has a particular relief age for its workers. Due to the late beginning of working years, the person gets fewer working years compared to others. As to fulfill the criteria of a job, the individual need to compete for education and graduation. All this gets automatically delayed due to late admission.

CONCLUSION

As a parent, their kid’s entire life starting from birth to education, and jobs everything needs s to be planned. No parent wants any type of loss in their kid’s life. They plan the entire life of their kid even before they are born. In this way, these few drawbacks cause to loss to kid as well their family.

The government requires to look at these issues seriously and should make some amendments to overcome these drawbacks.
