Know why Maa Skandamata is worshipped in the fifth form
According to mythology, there was a demon named Tarakasur who prayed to Brahma Ji and asked for immortality. Brahma Ji explained to him that whoever is born has to die. Then Tarakasur asked for the boon that he should die only at the hands of Lord Shiva’s son. The gods and goddesses, troubled by the atrocities of Tarakasur, prayed to Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva married Parvati and became the father of Kartikeya.

To prepare Kartikeya for the war, Mother Parvati took the form of Skandamata. After taking training for war from Skandamata, Kartikeya killed Tarakasur and this form of Goddess Mother came to be known as Skandamata. Maa Skandamata is also called Padmasana Devi because she sits on a lotus seat.
