Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, June 05A total of five schools of Himachal Pradesh have been awarded the Green School Award on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5 for successfully conducting activities related to environmental protection and bringing awareness about the environment in their school premises.The most special thing is that among the five schools awarded the Green School Award, three government schools of Himachal Pradesh Government have also made their place. Under the Green School Program (GSP) run by the Center for Science and Environment (CSE), an organization engaged for the last several years to improve the environment, all the five schools have received awards in different categories after the evaluation of the environmental protection activities being run by all the five schools in their respective school premises.
On the grand occasion of June 5, World Environment Day, five schools of the state were honored with the Green School Award by the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Prabodh Saxena at the historic Gaiety Theater in the capital Shimla on Wednesday.
Three schools of Solan district of Himachal Pradesh have performed brilliantly on the standards set for environmental protection.Government Senior Secondary School Bhatiyan, District Solan, Government Senior Secondary School Bhont, District Shimla, Government Senior Secondary School Didwin, District Hamirpur, Pinegrove School Dharampur, District Solan and G.M.B. School Nalagarh, District Solan have been honored with the Chief Minister Rolling Trophies for 2023-24.
Green School Award given to five schools of Himachal Pradesh for best performance in these categories –
Government Senior Secondary School Bhatiyan of Solan district has been honored with the Changemaker School Award in the Yellow to Green category of environmental protection.
The Changemaker School Award was given for making the school campus green by de-cluttering it under environmental conservation.
With this award, Government Senior Secondary School, Bhatiyan in Solan district will become a role model for all schools in the state for environmental conservation activities.
Government Senior Secondary School Bhont, District Shimla has been honored with the Waste Newcomer Award under the Green School Program (GSP).
Pinegrove School Dharampur, District Solan has been honored with the Waste Warrior Award under the Green School Program (GSP) for excellent management of garbage waste in the school premises.
Government Senior Secondary School Didwin, District Hamirpur has been awarded the Land Manager Award under the Green School Program (GSP) for conservation of land and excellent management in the school premises. Now Government Senior Secondary School Didwi, District Hamirpur will become a model for other schools in conservation of land and excellent management.
G.M.B. School Nalagarh, District Solan was awarded the Energy Manager Award under the Green School Program (GSP) for adopting the use of solar energy in the school premises and creating awareness about the use of renewable energy. This award will give G.M.B. School Nalagarh, District Solan the recognition of an ideal school in adopting the use of solar energy and renewable energy resources.
Neeraj Kumar, Environmental Education Program Manager of Green School Program (GSP) run by the organization Center for Science and Environment (CSE), said that the Green School Program (GSP) of the Center for Science and Environment is a great initiative which guides the students and teachers of the schools to adopt environmental conservation activities in their school premises.He said that the Green School Award initiative has been started to make the schools of Himachal Pradesh aware of environmental conservation activities.
Neeraj Kumar said that the Green School Program has been running in Himachal Pradesh for the last 13 years and till now more than 800 schools of Himachal Pradesh have joined the Green School Program (GSP) to adopt environmental conservation activities.He informed that in the last year’s academic session 2023-24, a total of 94 schools of Himachal Pradesh participated in the Green School Program (GSP).He said that all the winning schools being awarded in various categories under the Green School Program (GSP) emerge as role models for other schools in the state to smoothly conduct environmental conservation activities.
He said that the initiative of Green School Program (GSP)-CM Rolling Trophy was started in the year 2017 and the Green School Program (GSP)-CM Rolling Trophy is awarded to the best schools of Himachal Pradesh every year on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, whose teachers and students together have organized the best activities of environmental conservation in their school premises under the Green School Program (GSP).
He told that the schools participating in the Green School Program (GSP) make the students of their school environmental managers and run the activities of environmental conservation smoothly Which is added to the audit report of Green School Program (GSP).
