Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) CBSE students will now read new history books in class 10th, 11th and 12th. These students will no longer get to read stories of the rise of the Mughal Empire, Delhi Darbar, Akbarnama, Badshahnama and many political parties in history books. However, controversy has also arisen over the removal of Mughal court and other chapters from the syllabus. Many parties (Uddhav faction) including Congress, CPM, Shiv Sena have expressed their opposition to this move.

The syllabus of history books for class 10th, 11th and 12th has been revised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Many major changes have been made in these. These changes were announced only in June last year, but Uttar Pradesh has already implemented these changes. New books for the academic session 2023-24 have also become available online and offline. Additional Chief Secretary (Basic and Secondary Education) Deepak Kumar said, “We follow NCERT books and whatever is available in the revised edition, we will implement in the state schools from the 2023-24 session.”
What changes?
NCERT has removed chapters and topics related to kings and their history from class 10th, 11th, 12th history books. It has made several changes in ‘Aaroh Bhag Do’ running in Intermediate from the academic session 2023-24. In this, Firaq will not be able to read Gorakhpuri Ghazal and Suryakant Tripathi Nirala’s ‘Geet Gaane Do Mujhe’ from ‘Antara Bhag Do’. Apart from this, NCERT has also removed Vishnu Khare’s work Aur Satya from ‘Antara Bhag Do’. Students will also not be able to read ‘Charlie Chaplin i.e. Hum Sab’ in ‘Vidyarthi Aaroh Bhag Do’ in this session.

Major Changes in Themes in World History, Themes of Indian History-Part-2
Under the new syllabus, The Mughal Courts (16th and 17th centuries) have been removed from the history book Themes of Indian History-Part-2. Similarly, lessons related to Central Islamic Lands, Clash of Cultures and Industrial Revolution have also been removed from the Class 11 textbook Themes in World History.

Class 12 History books will help students to learn about Akbarnama and Badshahnama, Mughal Rulers and their Empire, Composition of Manuscripts, Color Illustration, Ideal State, Capitals and Courts, Titles and Gifts, Royal Family, Royal Bureaucracy, Mughal Elite, Empire and Borders Will not even get to read about.

Apart from this, chapters like American Hegemony in World Politics and The Cold War Era have also been completely removed from the Class 12 Civics textbook. Rise of Popular Movements and Era of One Party Dominance have also been removed from the Class 12 book Politics in India Since Independence.

In these, the dominance of the Congress, the Socialist Party, the Communist Party of India, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and the Swatantra Party was told. While lessons like democracy and diversity, popular struggle and movement, challenges of democracy have also been removed from the 10th class book Democratic Politics-2.

All references to the 2002 Gujarat riots have been removed from all NCERT Social Science textbooks. For example, two pages on the riots from the last chapter of the current Class 12 Political Science textbook, titled Politics in India Since Independence, have been deleted. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s famous ‘Raj Dharma’ remark in a section on the second page has also been removed. On the other hand, things like hatred of Hindu extremists towards Gandhi, ban on RSS after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi will not be there in NCERT Class 12 book.
Although many chapters have been removed from the NCERT books, but the removal of material from the Mughal court and works of some poets from the 12th standard syllabus has sparked a controversy. Regarding this, educationists say that till now only Mughals have been taught more. Children can get information about every ruler only through these books, so they should be taught about all the rulers, so that the coming generation can get acquainted with the bravery and bravery of these rulers and understand the history of their country in depth. Many politicians and educationists have supported the removal of the history of the Mughal court from the NCERT books. Delhi BJP leader and former minister Kapil Mishra said in a statement, ‘It is a brilliant decision to remove the false history of Mughals from NCERT.’

On the other hand, educationist Dr. SC Sharma says, ‘It is a good initiative on the one hand. We should teach our genealogy. We should also inform that how much bravery our warriors showed in the war with Mughals or anyone else. The reality must be shown. The future leaders of the country should know the entire history, the truth should be published.

Swami Anand Swaroop, president of the Shankaracharya Trust, said, “The NCERT corrected by removing the chapter on the Mughal court. Why should children read about these murderers, rapists, robbers and vicious people?”
