Traffic affected as road collapse at Nigulsari in Kinnaur closes NH-5

Traffic on National Highway 5 has once again been disrupted after a road collapse at Nigulsari in Kinnaur. A 70-metre portion of the road leading to Bhawannagar has collapsed badly, forcing authorities to close the route. The road has collapsed due to continuous boulders in a landslide-prone area, completely halting vehicular movement.

According to reports, about three metres of the entire width of the road has collapsed. This severe damage has left the administration with no option but to carry out a major repair operation. While digging work is underway in the mountain to rebuild the damaged portion, the road is expected to be reopened by late evening.

Till then, authorities are advising travellers in Kinnaur to take alternate routes via Kaza headed to Shimla or lower areas. For those headed to Kinnaur, travelling on foot from Taranda Road is the only option for now.

Despite the administration’s best efforts, the unstable terrain continues to pose challenges. The landslide is a stark reminder of the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters, which often disrupt daily life and essential transport routes in Himachal Pradesh.
