The trouble started around 11:00 pm, when three students allegedly harassed a taxi driver in Summerhill. The driver approached the nearby police outpost to lodge a complaint. Three policemen were on duty at the time. When the policemen arrived at the spot and warned the students to stop creating a ruckus, they pounced on them and started a scuffle.
