Shimla, 01 September: The issue of illegal mosque under construction in Sanjauli, a suburb of the capital Shimla, has heated up. Hindu organizations and local people protested fiercely in Sanjauli on Sunday. Congress councilor Narendra Thakur also joined the protest. Taking out a rally in large numbers in Sanjauli market, Hindu organizations reached outside the mosque and recited Hanuman Chalisa there. The protesters called the mosque illegal and demanded the administration to demolish it.
The protesters also said that the number of people of a particular community coming from outside the state to Shimla is continuously increasing and they are working to intimidate the Hindu society. People also demanded police verification of people from outside states setting up hawkers in the city.
Local people alleged that the three-storey mosque in Sanjauli has been built illegally without the permission of the administration. The protesters remained adamant on the demand to demolish the illegal mosque. In view of the possibility of tension increasing, the police has increased security. When the matter escalated, Shimla DC Anupam Kashyap and SP Sanjeev Gandhi also reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
The protesters said that two days ago, people of a particular community in Shimla’s suburb Malyana have beaten up a local businessman badly. The victim has got several stitches on his head. They say that people of a particular community coming from outside states are spoiling the atmosphere of the city. Local people are scared of this. The DC and SP assured the protesters of appropriate action in the entire matter. He said that all aspects related to the matter will be investigated, so that there is complete harmony in the society. He said that the matter of mosque construction is pending in the Municipal Corporation Court.
The senior officer of the Municipal Corporation present on the spot also admitted that the mosque has been built on the land of the Waqf Board, but three floors of the building are being constructed illegally. A case will be filed in the Municipal Corporation court on Saturday and further decision will be taken regarding this. DC and SP advised the protesters to maintain restraint and said that the matter is related to religious sentiments and in such a situation, appropriate action will be taken after a thorough investigation.
At the same time, SP Sanjeev Gandhi said that work will be done in accordance with the established procedures in this entire matter and a positive solution will be found to all their issues. He said that the entire matter will be resolved in a timely manner by sitting with the Municipal Corporation councilors. He said that migrants coming from outside states to work in Shimla are registered and the police is fully alert about this. He talked about taking strict action against the culprits of the attack on the Hindu youth in Malyana. He said that the responsibility of investigating this incident has been given to the police officer.
