Telangana minister’s scathing remarks on KTR being linked to Samantha-Naga divorce stirs controversy: Reasons for controversy
Telangana Forest Minister and Congress leader Konda Surekha has sparked a major controversy by accusing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) of being linked to actor Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s divorce. She also alleged that he was involved in drugs and blackmail.
Actors respond
Actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu have hit out at Telangana minister Konda Surekha after her comments. The actors called the minister’s claims “absolutely ridiculous” and “unacceptable”.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu gave her take on the controversy, urging Konda Surekha to “be responsible and respect personal privacy.” In a series of Instagram Stories, she criticised the minister for speculating and misrepresenting her personal life. “My divorce is a private matter, and I request you to refrain from speculating about it,” she wrote, reiterating that their separation was consensual and not done for any political motive.
In a statement shared on X, Chaitanya said, “The minister’s claim is not only false, but absolutely ridiculous.” He emphasised the emotional burden of divorce, calling it one of the “most painful and unfortunate life decisions” one can take. He clarified that the decision to separate was mutual and amicable, based on differing life goals. He added, “It is shameful to try and exploit celebrities’ personal life decisions for media headlines.” Adding to the backlash, Chaitanya’s father, veteran Telugu actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, condemned Surekha’s comments, calling them “totally irrelevant and false” and demanded that she withdraw them. He stressed the importance of respecting the privacy of individuals, especially those in the film industry who are not involved in politics.
As the matter escalated, Konda Surekha issued a clarification, stating that her comments were aimed at “insulting women” by a leader and were not intended to humiliate Samantha Ruth Prabhu. In a post written in Telugu, she expressed her admiration for Prabhu and said that she would unconditionally withdraw her comments if anyone was hurt by them.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya got married in 2017 but got divorced in 2021. Recently, Chaitanya got engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala, but they are yet to reveal their wedding date.
