The National Football League (NFL) will hold Super Bowl LVII as its future American football championship game for the 2022 NFL season. The National Football Conference (NFC) champion Philadelphia Eagles and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the game. At State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the game is slated to take place on Sunday, February 12, 2023, with a 4:30 p.m. MST kickoff (UTC-7).

The Phoenix metropolitan region has hosted four Super Bowls; the most recent was Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, which was again held at State Farm Stadium (then called the University of Phoenix Stadium). Fox will broadcast the match on national television. Rihanna will be the star of the halftime performance.

Host selection process

With Super Bowl LVI, a new mechanism for choosing Super Bowl hosting locations went into effect. The prior method of soliciting bids from cities for the hosting rights was abandoned. Instead, the league decides on a single hosting location for every game unilaterally, barring other cities from placing bids. The selected city then draughts a proposal that is decided upon at the league’s owners’ meetings.

Arizona was the first state selected through this method, and on May 23, 2018, its plan was unanimously approved.

The official logo, which incorporates images of a desert canyon and sky (the latter of which resembles the Arizona state flag to reflect the landscapes of the host region), was unveiled on February 14, 2022. It adheres to the updated logo template introduced by Super Bowl LVI.

calls for a shift in location

After accusing the Arizona legislature of passing unnecessary voting restrictions in Arizona bills HB 1003, SB 1485, and SB 1819, over 200 liberal religious leaders, including Jesse Jackson and William Barber, petitioned NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to move Super Bowl LVII out of Arizona in February 2022.

Playoffs

The game has informally been referred to as “The Andy Reid Bowl”, as Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had previously served as the head coach of the Eagles from 1999 to 2012. Reid became the fifth head coach to face his former team in the Super Bowl, joining Weeb Ewbank (Super Bowl III), Dan Reeves (XXXIII), Jon Gruden (XXXVII), and Pete Carroll (XLIX).

As this will be the first Super Bowl featuring brothers competing against one other, notably Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce, the game has also been colloquially referred to as “The Kelce Bowl”[20][21][22]. [23] After Super Bowl XLVII, in which John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, defeated Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, it will be the second Super Bowl with brothers on opposing teams.

Since Super Bowl LII in 2017 (the Eagles were the number 1 seed of the NFC in both the 2017 and 2022 seasons), when the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots, this is the most recent Super Bowl to be played between the number 1 seeds of both conferences.

Additionally, it will be the first Super Bowl in NFL history to feature two black starting quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) and Jalen Hurts (Eagles).

Broadcasters

The final game to be shown under the terms of the current NFL television contract will be the Super Bowl LVII, which will be telecast by Fox.  The lead-out program on Fox will be the Next Level Chef season debut. On NFL+, the game will also be streamed live.  Fox Deportes will broadcast the game in Spanish.

For Fox’s broadcast combination of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen[30], who took over for Joe Buck and Troy Aikman after they left for ABC/ESPN and Monday Night Football, this will be their first Super Bowl assignment. [31] Mike Pereira will be the rules analyst, and Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi will serve as sideline reporters.

International

Bell Media is the owner of the broadcast rights for the game in Canada. TSN and CTV will broadcast the game in English; RDS will deliver the French broadcast.

The game will also be broadcast on TSN+ and DAZN.

For the first time since 2007, ITV will broadcast the game in the United Kingdom. Sky Sports NFL will also broadcast the game in the UK and Ireland (as well as its sister channels Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Showcase). Through BBC Radio 5 Live, it will be broadcast on the radio.

The Seven Network, as well as its sister station 7mate and on-demand service 7plus, will all broadcast the game in Australia.

The match will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on Star+ throughout Latin America.

This will be the last NFL game broadcast in Germany and Austria by ProSieben, Puls 4, and Puls 24 (with original English game commentary) — TV networks that are all part of the same media company: For the 2023 season, ProSiebenSat.1 Media will cede its television rights to RTL Group (RTL, Nitro), which also airs NFL broadcasts in Austria.

Following the transfer of the broadcasting rights from the former right-holder NENT/Viaplay, which has broadcast the NFL in Sweden since the 1980s, the game will be broadcast in Sweden for the first time by the linear TV channel TV12 and on the streaming service C More.

The match will be broadcast on La Chaîne L’Équipe and beIN Sports in France.

Fox Sports, Azteca 7 from TV Azteca, and Canal 5 from TelevisaUnivision will all broadcast the event in Mexico.
