Children and youth have the highest inclination-

Children and youth have the highest inclination for ice skating. In Shimla, schools and colleges have holidays in the month of January and parents bring their children here to get them to skate. Along with this, youth also reach here in large numbers to enjoy the thrill of skating. Basic training is also provided here for players who are fond of ice hockey and various competitions are also organized. This is the country’s first open air skating rink, where ice is frozen naturally. This new rink will provide Himachal Pradesh ice hockey players the facility to practice throughout the year, which will greatly improve the game of the players.

The journey from tennis court to ice skating rink –

The rink was built in 1920 by Blessington of British origin. Earlier there used to be a tennis court here, but due to the freezing of ice in winter, skating was started in it. It has been 104 years since this rink was built. Since then, children enjoy ice skating during winter vacations.

This rink of Shimla is one of the oldest open air rinks in Asia. In the year 1965, President of Yugoslavia, Marshal Tito came here. During that time, when an ice hockey competition was held in the rink, he awarded the winners with the Marshal Tito Trophy. Since then, a trophy with the same name is given in ice hockey till date.
