The Markandeya river, which comes under the Nahan assembly constituency of Sirmaur district, has caused heavy damage to agriculture and property during this monsoon.
The Markandeya river continues to show its fury in Bankala Panchayat of this area and has badly destroyed the newly constructed irrigation scheme for the panchayat.
The drinking water scheme for Shambhu Wala village has also been affected by the Markandeya river, due to which the problem of drinking water has also arisen in the area.
The drinking water scheme made for Shambhu Wala village was also damaged-
According to Rajni Devi, the head of the Bankala Panchayat, the Malo bridge has also been badly damaged in the floods in the Markandeya river. Due to which the problems of the people have increased further.
An irrigation scheme which was about to start running has also suffered a big loss.
The bridge is almost broken and the pump house of the IPH scheme of water in the pump house proper Shambhu Wala below is also completely damaged and probably the water going to my village is almost closed for that village.
According to the villagers, the Markandeya river has washed away a large amount of agricultural land with it and the crops of paddy and maize have been ruined.
A farmer told Diary Times reporter Kumud Sharma after his land was damaged by the Markandeya river that “Loss We had planted paddy for our entire field, sowed maize, sowed fodder for the cow, the whole land was cut off, now we have removed the cow and cow from here and tied them up in someone else’s house because the land here can be cut anytime, and even tomorrow the water which is there is so little that it stood here and the whole land has been cut.”
