Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 02: Shand Mahayagya of Dev Junga Banog Thund concluded with traditional Dev Puja on Saturday. On the occasion of Shand Mahayagya, the newly constructed temple was decorated like a bride.

Bhandari Inder Singh Thakur and Kardar Ranjit Singh Thakur of the temple committee told that there is an ancient temple of Dev Junga in Banog which is about two centuries old, after renovating which, Shand Mahayagya has been organized in which thousands of people of Keonthal area participated in offering prayers to the temple of Dev Junga.

Ranjit Thakur told that in this Mahayagya, apart from Deity Ghanena Junga, Deity Dhanchand Thunda, hundreds of people including Ishta and King Khush Vikram Singh Sen of the then Keonthal princely state, Rajmata Vijay Jyoti Sen, Kardars of 24 Devathis participated in this Mahayagya. As per tradition, Shand Mahayagya Dev Puja was organized for the purification of this newly constructed temple and the restoration of the deity. In which Kurudh was established last night at an auspicious time.

To prepare the Kurudh, on 29th February all the devotees of the deity went to Satlai forest and on 1st March the Kurudh was cut and brought. He told that when it is picked up from the forest by Kurudh, it is directly installed on the peak of the temple. Meanwhile, Kurudha is not kept anywhere for rest.

He told that after the consecration of the temple on Saturday, the deity has been reinstalled in its temple. He Also Told that the divine work of Shand Mahayagya was completed under the supervision of Khush Vikram Sen, the favored and then king of Keonthal princely state. A huge Bhandara was also organized on this auspicious occasion.
