Shimla, July 12: Rakesh Sharma, father of former MLA Chaitanya Sharma, appeared at Boileauganj police station on Friday in connection with the alleged horse-trading case in the Rajya Sabha elections of Himachal Pradesh and conspiracy to topple the Himachal Pradesh government. Rakesh Sharma was questioned by the SIT of Shimla Police, which is investigating the entire case.

According to the information received, the SIT of Shimla Police questioned Rakesh Sharma in the matter of bringing and taking the rebel MLAs by chopper and bearing their expenses in the hotel. Rakesh Sharma is a retired IAS officer. He has also been the Chief Secretary of the neighboring state of Uttarakhand. In this case, the SIT had also summoned former Haryana CM Manohar Lal’s publicity advisor Tarun Bhandari, but he did not join the investigation due to ill health.

According to the information received from reliable sources, the investigation of Shimla Police in this case has reached a former rebel MLA and SIT has summoned him to Boileauganj police station on 10th and 11th July. On 22nd June, SIT had also questioned BJP candidate from Hamirpur Ashish Sharma in this case. Ashish Sharma has been called again for questioning on 15th July.

Let us tell you that former MLA and BJP candidate from Hamirpur Ashish Sharma and former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s father Rakesh Sharma have been accused of horse-trading in Rajya Sabha elections. Shimla Police has collected information about the expenses and payments made for meeting with BJP leaders including Ganga bath in Uttarakhand. It is being told that about Rs 30 lakh has been spent. Shimla Police has found many important evidences in the investigation of the travel agency.

It is noteworthy that on March 10, Congress MLAs Sanjay Awasthi and Bhuvneshwar Gaur had lodged a case in Boileauganj police station against former MLA Ashish Sharma and former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s father, retired IAS officer Rakesh Sharma under IPC sections 171E and 171C, 120B and sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Both of them are accused of conspiring to topple the ruling Congress government of Himachal Pradesh.
