Shimla, August 21: An emergency meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap regarding the landslide near Boileauganj. The Deputy Commissioner said that there has been no major damage so far due to heavy landslide at the said place, but the danger remains in the surrounding area. Until the situation becomes normal, the alternative traffic arrangement will remain the same as before. He said that the landslide affected routes will be made functional in a phased manner, so that there is no damage of any kind again.

He said that due to this landslide, two main roads from Boileauganj to Chaura Maidan and Boileauganj to Crossing have been completely blocked and traffic has been completely stopped on these routes for safety. These roads are very important because most of the movement of the city and district takes place through these roads. He has appealed to the city residents to cooperate fully in the alternative traffic system till the road is restored. Apart from this, office, school going people and others should ensure to leave for their destination in advance.

The Deputy Commissioner said that if this landslide is cleared suddenly without any planning, then more landslides can occur. Therefore, officials of special agencies have been called for its work strategy, who will go to the spot and tell how these roads should be restored properly. He said that electricity poles, fiber cables of communication companies, and water pipelines were also laid in it, for which the officials of the concerned department have assessed this place themselves on Wednesday morning and started their work with an alternative plan so that there is no obstruction.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration is alert about the incidents of landslides occurring at other places in Shimla and all such incidents will be dealt with by making a strategy. He said that the help of experts will be taken in such cases and whatever is right will be done so that any further damage can be prevented. Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said that in view of security, movement on these routes has been completely stopped and full arrangements have been made to keep the traffic running smoothly on alternative routes. Public Works Department officials and geologists also shared their views in the meeting.

On this occasion, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Shimla Bhupendra Atri, Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) Jyoti Rana, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shimla Urban Bhanu Gupta, Secretary Indian Institute of Advanced Study Shimla MC Negi, Commandant Third Corps Kuldeep Kapil, Executive Engineer Sushil Namdeo from Deepak Project, Geologist Gaurav Sharma, besides other officials of Public Works Department, Police, Electricity, Forest, Municipal Corporation were present.
