Shimla, August 22: A constable posted as reader in Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) office has been arrested by Vigilance on bribery charges. The reader had demanded bribe from the complainant to settle a case related to atrocity.
The complainant informed the Vigilance about this. After preliminary investigation of this complaint, Vigilance laid a trap to catch the accused. On Wednesday evening, a special squad of Vigilance Bureau arrested the accused. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Kumar. He was posted as DSP’s reader in SP office. After the action of Vigilance, the accused was removed from SP office and posted at Police Line Kaithu.
According to the case, the accused had demanded a bribe of about 60 thousand rupees for the settlement of a case registered under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act in Police Station New Shimla. The reader is also accused of taking 10 thousand rupees from the victim. Vigilance laid a trap to catch the accused reader. The victim was given a recorder in which the conversation between the accused and the victim regarding the money transaction was recorded. After this, Vigilance took further action and the accused was arrested.
