20 Years Rigorous imprisonment
Shimla, February 29: In the case of rape of granddaughter, the court of Special Judge POCSO/Rape Amit Mandyal in Shimla has sentenced Grandfather to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000. In the case Government vs Subhash Chand, the court has awarded this punishment to accused Subhash Chand under sections 376, 506 of IPC and section 6 of POCSO Act.
Apart from this, under section 506 of IPC, he has also been sentenced to 6 months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 and the accused will also have to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh.
The prosecution was represented by Deputy District Attorney Sangeeta Justa. During the trial, the prosecution examined 17 witnesses to prove the case. Arguments were heard at the conclusion of the trial.
The case is of December 3, 2021, when the victim was going to school, the accused Subhash (who appeared to be her maternal grandfather) raped her in the forest.
Threatened to kill him if he told anyone. After this, again on 12 December 2021, Subhash Chand forcibly dragged the victim to his house at around 8 pm and raped her twice.

The incident came to light when the victim’s mother took her to the hospital for checkup. There they came to know that the daughter was pregnant for 6 months.
Based on the facts, an FIR was registered under sections 376, 506 of the IPC and section 6 of the POCSO Act at Police Station Chirgaon. The court of Special Judge, Shimla convicted the accused for the heinous crime.
