Dharamshala: Former Chief Minister and Union Minister Shanta Kumar has called for implementing strict population control measures, expressing concern over the growing imbalance between Hindu and Muslim population in India. Speaking on the issue, Kumar warned that uncontrolled population growth, especially among Muslims, could lead to serious socio-political challenges for the country.

Kumar referred to the recent threats made by some Muslim leaders who had reportedly said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government would collapse by 2027 due to the growing Muslim population. He termed the development as worrying and said that if there was no change in the population and mindset, it could result in demands for creating “another Pakistan” in India.

“Due to practices like multiple marriages and large families, the Muslim population is growing faster than the Hindu population,” Kumar said. He stressed the urgent need for the Indian government to enact laws to control population growth. If immediate legislation is not possible, Kumar suggested an alternative: families with more than two children should be denied government benefits and barred from contesting elections.

Kumar linked the rising population to rising poverty and unemployment in the country, despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi making efforts to address it. He argued that the root cause of these issues is the rapid increase in population. “This mindset of uncontrolled growth is more dangerous than poverty and unemployment,” he said, urging both the government and citizens to take immediate action.
