Beijing, Aug 21: Seven people were killed in a coal mine accident in southwest China’s Sichuan province on Wednesday, local emergency management officials said.

A total of eight workers were trapped during an air shaft sealing operation at a coal mine in Wutongqiao district of Sichuan’s Leshan city at around 10 am on Wednesday, according to news agency Xinhua.

Search and rescue efforts confirmed the death of seven people by 2 pm on Wednesday. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, while one person is still missing.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
