Himachal News: Scheduled Tribe Status Given To Hati Community In Himachal, Notification Issued

On Monday, the first day of New Year 2024, the Himachal Pradesh government has given a big gift to the entire people of Transgiri region of Sirmaur district. After the release of the complete notification, the Cabinet has also given official approval to register Hati community as Scheduled Tribe.

The entire Hati community of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh has been granted Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. On Monday, the first day of New Year 2024, Himachal Pradesh Government has provided a big gift to the entire people of Transgiri region of Sirmaur district. With immediate effect after the release of the complete notification, the Cabinet has also given approval to provide Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Hati community.

The most important decision of providing Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Hati community has been taken in the cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Honourable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Due to which Hati has become the eleventh community to get special status. Earlier, there used to be only ten communities of Scheduled Tribe (ST) category in Himachal Pradesh. However, keeping in mind the Central law, an important decision has been taken to keep the Scheduled Castes of Transgiri region out of the ambit of Scheduled Tribes.

Addressing the Diary Times Press Conference at Shimla Secretariat after the Himachal Cabinet meeting, Honourable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that clarification regarding the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category has not been received from the Narendra Modi government at the Center regarding the Hati community. Some objections regarding Hati community were also raised by the Law Department of the Central Government. From time to time, CM Sukhu had also discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Hati community. The Government of Himachal Pradesh wanted to fully clarify its position regarding granting of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Hati community. In the month of September 2023, Himachal Pradesh Government had also sent a reply to the Central Government for clarification regarding Hati community. When the decision regarding Hati community came, as soon as the office opened on Monday, the complete notification was issued and the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status of Hati community was also approved by the Cabinet.

CM Sukhu said that – he had already said that as soon as the clarification comes from the Central Government regarding the Scheduled Tribe (ST) of Hati community, the complete notification will be issued within 24 hours. The entire notification of Scheduled Tribe (ST) to Hati community has been implemented by Himachal Pradesh government within ten hours. CM Sukhu said that he himself is going to go to Sirmaur District Administration Headquarters Nahan on January 3 to inform the Transgiri region about the complete notification of Hati community.

These ten castes of Himachal Pradesh are already included in Scheduled Tribe (ST) –

Before the inclusion of Hati community of Transgiri region of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh in Scheduled Tribe (ST), ten other castes are also included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. In Himachal Pradesh, along with Bhot-Bodh, Gad, Gujjar, Jad, Lamba, Khampa, Kanaura, Kinnaura, Lahaula, Pangwala, Swangla, Beta-Bheda, Demba, Gara and Joba castes are also completely in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

On behalf of the Chief Principal Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Tribal Development Department, Omkar Sharma, a complete notification has been issued to all the Administrative Secretaries of Himachal Pradesh, all the twelve District Deputy Commissioners of Divisional Commissioners regarding the inclusion of Hati community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Letters and complete guidelines have been issued for the upcoming action process.
