Rotaractors Unite to Nourish 10,000 Lives: Rotary District 3080's Project Annapurna
Chandigarh, July 11: Rotary International District 3080 proudly announces the successful conclusion of the tenure’s first project “Annapurna,” a community nourishing project. Celebrated during the first week of July, Annapurna Week exemplifies the district’s unwavering commitment to serving society.
This year, the six zones of the district, with around 2000 Rotaractors, united to make a significant impact, contributing to the distribution of food worth approximately INR 2 lakh. Over the course of the week, more than 10,000 people across the district including people in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula etc. were served, 1,000+ animals were fed, and 100+ families were empowered with skills to become self-reliant. The skills imparted included making and selling paper bags, mehndi art, and enrollments in vocational centers.

DRR Shashank Kaushik remarked, “Project ‘Annapurna’ is a testament to the power of collective effort and compassion. By nourishing both the body and spirit, we lay the foundation for a resilient and self-sustaining community. This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also empowers individuals with the skills to build a better future. The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will indeed be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.”
Rtr. Aman Garg, District Director of Community Services, RID 3080, reflected on the initiative, stating, “The first event under community services was the biggest challenge for me as it was also the first project of this tenure. The most important thing was not only to provide food to those we were serving but also to teach them skills so that they could become self-reliant. The entire district team and every club made this week the most memorable week of my life through their participation and spirit of service. I am very grateful to everyone and hope they will continue this spirit of service.”
Project “Annapurna” continues to be a beacon of hope and empowerment, demonstrating the district’s commitment to addressing hunger and fostering self-sufficiency within the community. This year’s efforts have not only provided immediate relief but have also laid the groundwork for sustainable development and independence for many families.
