Shimla, July 06: The sacred land of Himachal Pradesh lost another brave son in the service of the country. Rifleman Kulbhushan Manta, whose tale of bravery and courage fills every Indian’s chest with pride, was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra. This honour was received by his mother Durma Devi and wife Neetu Kumari at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
When the tale of Kulbhushan Manta’s bravery was being narrated at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the image of both pride and tears was clearly visible in the eyes of his mother Durma Devi.
The firmness on her face made everyone feel that Kulbhushan Manta’s bravery runs in her veins. Wife Neetu Kumari also showed her courage and resolve and proved to be the better half of the brave martyr.

President Draupadi Murmu’s motherly side was also seen during this time. While consoling mother Durma Devi and wife Neetu Kumari, she said that the country will always remember this sacrifice of Rifleman Kulbhushan Manta.
Kulbhushan Manta sacrificed his life on the day when he was badly injured in a terrorist encounter. Despite being seriously injured, he bravely caught a terrorist alive and kept responding to the enemies till his last breath, but the saga of his courage and sacrifice became immortal.
Kulbhushan Manta was a resident of Goth village of Kupvi in Shimla district. This sacrifice of Rifleman Kulbhushan Manta has made not only Himachal Pradesh but the whole of India proud.
