Shimla, June 19: In Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla, which is battling heatwave and water crisis, the weather became pleasant on Wednesday evening due to the showers of rain. Shimla was in the grip of heatwave throughout the day but at five in the evening the weather changed and it rained heavily along with strong storm and thundering of clouds.

After a long time, people got relief from the scorching heat due to rain in the capital Shimla. The weather changed due to strong storm and rain, and the dust storm also disrupted life in Shimla city.Due to heavy rains and lightning in Shimla, a different scene was seen at the Mall road and the Ridge ground.

Tourists were seen running amidst the storm and rain. Also, pedestrians and drivers were seen avoiding the rain. Many shopkeepers kept half the shutters of their shops closed to avoid the storm and rain. Due to rain, storm and thunder, working people returning from their offices in the dark faced the most problems. People were seen looking for shelter to save themselves from the rain.

Due to the storm and thunder in Shimla’s suburban area Dhalli, tin sheets and promotional material kept outside shops fell down and at some places, branches and trunks of trees and plants were seen broken and falling on the roads.

In the upper areas of Shimla district, Theog, Jubbal, Kotkhai and Rohru, hailstorm along with rain occurred, due to which damage has been recorded to the apple crop. Also, the rain in the plains brought relief from the scorching heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, there has been rain in Himachal Pradesh due to pre-monsoon. Rain will continue in the plains of the state in the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorm and lightning in the state. On June 21, clouds are going to rain in the plains and other parts. The weather is going to change in the plains and mountainous areas from June 22 to 24. Rain has started in the month of June due to pre-monsoon.

Heatwave has wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh before the rains. Seven cities recorded mercury above 40 degrees Una was the most affected by the heatwave.

Maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius was recorded in Una, 40.6 degrees in Sundernagar, 41.8 degrees in Bilaspur, 41 degrees in Kangra, 41.3 degrees in Hamirpur, 41.5 degrees in Dhaula Kuan, 40.6 degrees Celsius in Barthin.

Maximum temperature of 29.5 degrees was recorded in Shimla, 36.1 degrees in Bhuntar, 25.7 degrees in Kalpa, 36.5 degrees in Dharamsala, 37.9 degrees in Nahan, 19.9 degrees in Keylong, 28.3 degrees in Manali, 24.2 degrees in Kufri and 25.7 degrees Celsius in Narkanda.
