Paonta Sahib, August 5: In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, a police team raided the house of a notorious drug dealer in Devinagar, Paonta Sahib and recovered cash worth over ₹59 lakh. Accused Sanjay Kumar managed to escape before the raid and the police have now intensified their search for him.
On Sunday, a police team from Paonta Sahib raided the house of Sanjay Kumar in ward number 10 of Devinagar. Sanjay Kumar has been suspected of running a drug business in the area for a long time. As the police entered the house, they found a huge amount of cash in the cupboard. On counting, the total cash came out to be ₹59,10,100, mostly in 500 rupee notes.
After the raid, the police have detained Sanjay Kumar’s wife Poonam for questioning. According to sources, this is not the first time Sanjay Kumar has been involved in such activities. Earlier, on August 15, 2017, a raid was conducted at his house in which 16.89 grams of smack was recovered. Besides, in another raid on February 6, 2020, he was arrested with 2.40 grams of smack.
ASP Aditi Singh, commenting on the raid, said, “The police team raided a residence in Devinagar and recovered Rs 59,10,100 in cash. The investigation is underway and we are committed to fully unearthing the activities of the accused and arresting him at the earliest.”
Sanjay Kumar’s involvement in the drug trade in Paonta Sahib has been an ongoing issue. Despite previous arrests and recoveries, he continued his illegal activities. The recent raid, which recovered lakhs of rupees in cash, underlines the extent of his smuggling activities.
