Shimla, November 19: The State Government is working with sensitivity while giving top priority to social concern. Taking important steps in this direction, the State Government has expanded the Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojna and has also included abandoned and surrendered children in its ambit.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that at present this scheme is benefiting six thousand orphan children of the state. Now this scheme will help abandoned children facing various challenges. Abandoned children refer to children whose biological or adoptive parents, guardians have abandoned them, while surrendered children include those children whose parents or guardians have abandoned them due to physical, mental and social reasons. Benefiting these children under this scheme will ensure their complete development. Their mental, economic, social and emotional needs will also be fulfilled.
The Chief Minister said that under the expanded Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojna, child welfare committees in the districts will issue certificates to eligible children. He said that after final approval, these children will get financial assistance of Rs 1000 till the age of 14 years and Rs 2500 per month till the age of 18 years. Apart from this, these children will be given pocket money of Rs 4000 per month till the age of 27 years. The state government will also bear the expenditure for their higher education and in case of non-availability of hostel, Rs 3000 will be provided for PG facility.
The Chief Minister said that these children will be provided Rs 2 lakh to start a startup so that they can become self-reliant. Along with this, they will be given financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh for building a house and Rs 2 lakh for marriage. He said that Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country to make a law aimed at ensuring care and assistance to orphan children.
This historic initiative of the state government demonstrates the government’s commitment towards the sensitive sections of the society. Apart from ensuring their education, welfare and overall development, the State Government will also fund their annual air travel for these children for their stay in three star hotels and air travel experience during their tours. This new initiative of the Government aims to expose these children to new possibilities and experiences and provide them emotional support along with giving them a strong foundation to realize their dreams of a bright future.
The Chief Minister said that under this scheme, the State Government has taken the responsibility of welfare, upbringing and education of orphan children. It is the responsibility of the State Government to provide these children with the necessary resources and best opportunities to lead a respectable life.
