More than 7 lakh unemployed in Himachal, highest number in Kangra… 54 thousand in Sirmaur
The number of unemployed in Himachal Pradesh is more than seven lakh. Kangra district is first in terms of unemployment and Lahaul-Spiti is at the last position. In a written reply to the question of Bharmour MLA Dr. Janak Raj regarding the unemployed, Industry Minister Harshwardhan Chouhan said that till July 2024, the total number of unemployed registered in the employment offices of the state is 7 lakh 8 thousand 230. Kangra district has the highest number of unemployed at 1 lakh 49 thousand 514. Lahaul-Spiti has the lowest number of unemployed at 4631.
Mandi district is in second place in terms of unemployment, where there are 1 lakh 41 thousand 82 unemployed. There are 62 thousand 198 unemployed in Shimla district, 54 thousand 832 in Hamirpur district, 54 thousand 705 in Chamba district, 54 thousand 429 in Sirmaur district, 50 thousand 351 in Una district, 50 thousand 155 in Bilaspur, 42 thousand 621 in Solan district, 37 thousand 224 in Kullu district and 6488 unemployed in Kinnaur district.
He said that the number of registered unemployed of Scheduled Castes in employment offices till July 2024 is 1 lakh 95 thousand 386 and the number of Scheduled Tribes is 42 thousand 483.
He said that the ratio of unemployment has increased in two years. The unemployment rate was 4.0 in the financial year 2021-22, which increased to 4.4 in the financial year 2022-23. He told that the number of unemployed men in employment offices is 3 lakh 81 thousand 534 and the number of unemployed women is 3 lakh 26 thousand 696.
