Chamba, August 15: The 78th Independence Day celebrations were held with great fervour at the historic Chaugan Ground. Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur was present as the chief guest at this district level function. He first hoisted the flag at 11:00 am and took the salute of the march past. After this, in his address, the Education Minister congratulated and wished all the residents of the area on Independence Day.
He said that as a result of many struggles and countless sacrifices in the freedom movement of about 200 years, India became free from the shackles of slavery on 15 August 1947. Many brave soldiers of Himachal Pradesh have also sacrificed their lives while protecting the freedom movement and the borders of the country.
Speaking about the development of Himachal Pradesh, the Education Minister said that in terms of development, Himachal Pradesh has emerged as a model of development for other hill states today. He said that the Himachal Pradesh government has resolved that the state should become economically self-reliant and be included in the list of the richest states of the country in the coming 10 years. He said that during its 18-month tenure, the state government has given special importance to balanced development and poor welfare and has given new impetus to development in the backward and inaccessible areas of the state.
Discussing the development of Chamba district, Rohit Thakur said that the Himachal Pradesh government is giving special importance to the development of Chamba district and many new developments have been started during the last 18 months. He informed that recently on the occasion of the closing of Minjar Fair, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh has inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various developmental works of the district worth Rs. 120 crore through virtual medium. Apart from this, the state government has released an amount of Rs 165 crore to complete the construction work of Medical College Chamba during its tenure and this institute will be fully ready within the next 1 year.
Cultural programs were prepared by the students of various educational institutions for the function. Due to rain, only the students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School Chamba presented a patriotic group song and all other programs had to be postponed. In the function, the Education Minister honored the parade commander and platoon commanders of various contingents that were part of the parade.
On this occasion, MLA of Assembly constituency Chamba Neeraj Nayyar, former minister Asha Kumari, former minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri, former MLA Churah Assembly constituency SK Bhardwaj, former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal, State Congress Committee spokesperson Amit Bharmouri, HRTC Board of Directors member Surjeet Bharmouri, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav, former military officers, students of various schools and local people were also present.
