Mandi, 01 August: Two people have died due to cloudburst last night in Ramban village of Gram Panchayat Dhamchyan, which comes under Padhar subdivision of Mandi district, while 8 people are still missing. One person is injured, who has been admitted to Civil Hospital Jogindernagar for treatment. Residents of Ramban village said that there was not much rain at night, but suddenly a devastation came and wreaked havoc.
Villagers said that they spent the night under the open sky and did not dare to go to their homes due to fear. In the cloudburst incident in Ramban village, two houses of three families have completely collapsed, in which 11 people were present. Two bodies have been recovered while the search for 8 people is on.
ADM Mandi Dr. Madan Kumar while giving information to the media said that as soon as the incident of cloudburst was known, DC Mandi Apoorv Devgan left for the spot with the relief and rescue team at night. An attempt was made to reach the spot by opening all the roads at night, but could not reach the spot due to the roads being completely broken. In the morning all the teams reached Ramban village on foot and started relief and rescue work there.
Rescue work is going on and DC Mandi Apoorv Devgan himself is taking stock of the entire situation on the spot. The Air Force team was kept on standby, but no need has been felt so far.
Dr. Madan Kumar said that due to the rain last night, 134 roads of Mandi district have been closed, which include 6 district roads and 128 rural roads. Chandigarh-Manali Main National Highway has been restored for one-way traffic. Holiday has been declared in all the schools of Padhar, Balichowki and Karsog of the district while holiday has been declared in some schools of Sadar subdivision. He has appealed to the people to stay away from rivers and streams during this rainy season.
He said that a medical team has also been deployed on the spot. The doctor said that the injured person has been sent to Jogindernagar for treatment with immediate effect.
