Mandi News- Construction Work of Tunnels on Fourlane Between Mandi and Pandoh Started by NHAI
Tunnels will be built on four lane between Mandi and Pandoh, instructions to consulting agency to explore possibilities of tunnel construction.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to build the between four lane from Mandi to Pandoh through tunnels. The authority has started work in that direction and the consulting agency has been asked to explore the possibilities of tunnel construction and also prepare a DPR.
Confirming this in Mandi, NHAI Project Director Varun Chari said that during the rainy season, the area from four miles to seven miles had to face repeated problems due to landslides, due to which now this entire area is under two lockdowns. There is a plan to build a two kilometer long tunnels. He said that work will be carried forward in this direction only after the DPR is approved.
Landslides have also taken place in the between from Mandi to Pandoh and the major one is that there have been incidents of cloudbursts here. Due to cloudburst, you must have noticed that debris has not come from the landslide. That slush type material had come up at three-four places. So that was beyond our control but where we had not done the cutting. To make tunnels there, we have requested the DPR consultant to come here. But also study what is the feasibility here, can a tunnel be built or is there any alternative here? So, we are exploring it. So, the one from six miles onwards where we have not done the cutting.
There, we are exploring the proposal of a tunnel of around two kilometres. As its DPR is being prepared. On the basis of DPR, we will be able to decide whether the tunnel is feasible here or not? One tunnel will go from inside, each one which is your two lane will go from outside, like joint district will be on alignment. This proposal is still on. The decision will be taken only after technical visibility.
