Mandi: Dev Khudi Jal Will Participate in Shivratri After Almost 100 Years, Leaves From Original Place

Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Mandi , March 03: Khudi Jal, the deity located in Dehuri village under Ani tehsil of Kullu district on the borders of Mandi and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh, is leaving after 100 years to participate in the International Mandi Shivratri Festival. Today, on Sunday, at 4 pm, the chariot of the deity Khudi Jal has left for Mandi district along with the deities and Kardars. The first stop tonight is at Bihani village under Seraj area of Mandi district. After this, the deity Khudi Jal is going to reach Mandi in the morning of March 8 via Janjehli, Bagsyad, Gohar and Ghasnu.
Roop Lal, the chief priest of Devta Khudi Jal, told Diary Times correspondent Kumud Sharma that during the princely times, Devta Khudi Jal used to come to participate in the International Shivratri Festival. But later when the districts were formed, the village of Devta Khudi Jal was included in Kullu district and then the flow of Devta Khudi Jal towards Mandi district stopped. The royal family has a deep connection with the deity Khudi Jal. The 2.5 kg gold umbrella, musical instruments and bedsheets given by the royal family are still present near Devta Khudi Jal. Priest Rooplal has clarified that Devta Khudi Jal has not received any official invitation for the International Mandi Shivratri Mahotsav, but Devta Khudi Jal has been receiving orders to go to the International Shivratri Mahotsav for the last three years.

Last year, a lot of correspondence was done with Kullu district administration in this regard but no satisfactory action has been taken. Therefore, this time on the orders of the deity Khudi Jal, they are being brought to the International Mandi Shivratri Mahotsav. Kullu district administration has been requested to make arrangements for sitting and accommodation etc. The chariot of the deity Khudi Jal will circumambulate Mandi town and will also search and identify its old places as the sitting places of the deity Khudi Jal already sitting here. Although it is not clear when the deity Khudi Jal last came to participate in the Shivratri festival, but it is certain that it has been almost 100 years since deity Khudi Jal came to the Shivratri festival.

At the same time, Chairman of Sarva Devta Committee Shivpal Sharma has clarified that the deity Khudi Jal is coming without invitation to participate in the International Mandi Shivratri Festival. Therefore, deity Khudi Jal themselves will have to make arrangements for the sitting and stay by ourselves. Shivpal Sharma Said That Deity Khudi Jal is worshipable, hence All royal family members is going to be welcomed and treated with honour when Deity Khudi Jal reaches to participate in the International Mandi Shivratri Festival.
