India’s PV Sindhu went down in straight games to Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the final of the Madrid Spain Masters Super 300 badminton tournament on Sunday, April 2. PV Sindhu could not play even half an hour in the final match, she was defeated by Gregoria in 29 minutes. Sindhu, who was knocked out of the top 10 last Tuesday after failing to progress past the opening round on her return after missing five months due to injury, looked out of touch at any point in the final and world number 12 Tunjung Lost 8-21, 8-21.

Sindhu had a 7-0 head-to-head record against the 23-year-old from Indonesia before the final but she failed to dominate the match thus shattering her dream of winning her first title in eight months. Sindhu may have lost in the final but making it to the title clash after a long time will give her a lot of confidence going into the upcoming tournament of the year. The qualification tournaments for the Paris Olympics are also starting from next month.
