Landslide beneath STPI Building at SDA Complex Kasumpti blocks National Highway, govt offices at risk

Shimla, August 20: A major landslide occurred beneath the STPI Building at the SDA Complex in Kasumpti, Shimla, due to which the National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic. The area, which houses several government offices, is now in danger as the landslide has posed a major threat to the STPI Building itself. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

The landslide has blocked the entire road due to incessant monsoon rains, and concerns are rising over the stability of the STPI Building, especially if the rains continue. The administration has started removing the debris, but the danger still persists, with more rain expected.

Gaurav Sood, who works at the STPI Building, recalled the horrifying moment, saying, “I suddenly heard a loud noise, and within moments the debris covered the National Highway, blocking the entire road.”

There are also concerns that vehicles parked on the roadside may have been buried under the debris, as government employees and visitors usually use the area for parking.

As monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc in Shimla, landslides are becoming more frequent and dangerous.
