Koksar Illegal Dumping Case: NGT issues show cause notice to Government of India and HP Government
National Green Tribunal has issued a show cause notice to Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh in the illegal dumping case in Koksar, Eco Sensitive Zone of Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.
Order has been issued by National Green Tribunal Chairman Prakash Srivastava and Executive Member of NGT Dr. A Senthil Vel during the hearing in the case of Friends Society vs Government of India.

According to the notification issued by the National Green Tribunal, the applicant in the Koksar illegal dumping case has said that Koksar is situated at an altitude of 5,484 meters and is in the eco-sensitive zone.
Eco Sensitive Zone Koksar falls mainly on the Leh-Manali Highway in Lahaul-Spiti district.
Koksar also gets cut off due to heavy snowfall. Apart from this, the applicant has told the NGT that tourists and local industries throwing solid waste material in Koksar. No action is being taken by the Lahaul-Spiti district administration to manage the toxic waste accumulating in Koksar.
NGT has also been informed by the applicant about non-compliance of Rule 20 (C) of Solid Waste Management Rules-2016 by Lahaul-Spiti District Administration. The applicant has also informed NGT about the Supreme Court’s decision in Almitra H. Patel vs. Government of India.
