Shimla, 21 August: Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has raised serious concerns over the financial management of the current Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh and demanded immediate release of dearness allowance (DA) and arrears to state employees and pensioners. Thakur accused the state government of reneging on pre-poll promises and demanded Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to release a white paper detailing where the state’s recent loans have been spent.

Thakur criticized the Congress government for failing to fulfil promises made to employees. “Before the elections, Congress leaders had publicly claimed that if they came to power, they would stop outsourcing and provide permanent jobs. However, now the chief minister is saying on public forums that the posts will be filled through outsourcing,” he said. Thakur also expressed concern over the comments made regarding the salaries of teachers and said that these comments further expose the inconsistency of the government.

The opposition leader accused the Congress of making empty promises to garner votes and then reneging on its stand after coming to power. “Their leaders call themselves well-wishers of the employees, but when decisions detrimental to these employees are taken in cabinet meetings, they remain silent. Such double-faced leaders are only interested in grabbing headlines and not working for the public good,” Thakur said.

Jairam Thakur also criticized the government’s financial policies, claiming that despite taking substantial loans, the administration has failed to meet basic financial obligations. “This government is recklessly taking loans, yet salaries are getting delayed, and DA and arrears are not being paid despite earlier announcements. Even medical reimbursements are pending for two years,” he said.

Thakur demanded that Chief Minister Sukhu release a white paper on the financial position of the state, particularly focusing on the utilization of the nearly Rs 30,000 crore loan taken in the last 20 months. He urged the government to immediately honour its commitments to employees and pensioners, stressing that their rightful dues must be paid without any delay.
