Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Kullu, April 05: Captain Khemchand, a resident of Liyani village, a remote area of Lagghati in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, has retired after 29 years of service. He retired as Captain from Unit-6 Para SF in the Indian Army. Captain Khemchand also received three army medals during his tenure of 29 years and 3 months.

According to the information received, Captain Khemchand was recruited as a soldier in the Indian Army on 26 December 1994. Captain Khemchand climbed Mount Everest twice in 2007 and 2012. For 13 years, he continuously conquered peaks ranging from 7 thousand to 8000 meters high in Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu & Kashmir, Nepal. Where Captain Khemchand was awarded the Sena Medal. Retired Captain Khem Chand Army Medal said that he was posted in Special Forces and retired after 29 years and 3 months of service. During this period of service, he took training at IIT Mountaineering Institute, Gulmarg. In the year 2005, I was selected for the expedition by the Army Head Quarters and then successfully climbed Mount Everest twice.

The Captain says that now after retirement, he will inspire the youth about adventure. He says that the youth in Kullu are falling prey to drugs. In such a situation, efforts will be made to attract people towards play and adventure. He has expressed his unhappiness over the Centre’s Agniveer scheme.
