HPU Shimla: Now Along With PhD Entrance Exam, Interview Also Happens, HPU Will Implement The Rules From This Session

Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 09:Â Due to irregularities in the PhD admission process due to Corona, Himachal Pradesh University is conducting the December entrance examination in the month of March this time. This time Himachal Pradesh University will conduct 12 marks Research Aptitude Test as per the rules of UGC. In Research Aptitude Test, candidates will also have to go through the interview process after the entrance examination. In the interview, the candidate will have to give a presentation on the research topic.

Candidates will get 12 marks in this Research Aptitude Test. For the first time, HPU has made preparations to implement the system of 12 marks Research Aptitude Test as per the rules of UGC from this session itself. HPU is soon going to start the admission process by advertising PhD seats in 25 departments. HPU first tried to implement this system in the year 2015-16. At that time, after the question was raised, till now the admission has been given after preparing the merit on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination.

In the process of admission to PhD, students will have an entrance exam of 80 marks based on the entrance exam. In this, maximum 10 percent weightage of JRF/NET will be given on the basis of marks, which will be up to ten percent of the marks. That means there will be eight marks, whereas maximum four marks will be given for MPhil/SET. Only a maximum of eight marks will be given out of these two. The remaining 12 marks will be Research Aptitude Test. A student will be able to get a maximum of 12 marks in the Research Aptitude Test.
By implementing this rule of UGC, there should be no bias in the Research Aptitude Test and no questions should be raised. For this, a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Head of the Department for the Research Aptitude Test Interview in every department as part of the PhD admission process. Senior professors of the department will be included in this. Where there is no senior professor, the Dean will be a member of the committee. This will ensure accountability of the committee.

Entrance examination for PhD will be conducted soon. For this, details of available seats have come from every department. Applications will be invited by advertising it. This time there will be a Research Aptitude Test (Interview) in the PhD admission process.

Admission to PhD is available twice a year –
Himachal Pradesh University offers admission against vacant seats for PhD twice in a session. Direct admission is given to those who qualify the JRF and national level fellowship examination in July, while admission is given on the basis of entrance examination in December. Due to irregularities in the admission process due to Corona, the December entrance examination is being held in March this time.
