Shimla, July 26: Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is set to enhance the safety and living conditions of its hostel residents by introducing digital identity cards and other important measures from this August. The office of the chief warden has announced that the portal for hostel applications is now open, with the last date set as August 11.As a strategic move to improve security and maintain discipline in the hostels, HPU will issue digital identity cards to all students living in the hostels. Scanning these cards will reveal detailed information about the student, including their department and the specific room allotted to them. This digital transformation aims to streamline identification processes and ensure better monitoring of hostel activities.
HPU Chief Warden Prof. R.L. Zinta on Friday led an important meeting which focused on curbing violent incidents and promoting better academic environment in the university hostels, especially the boys’ hostels. The meeting was attended by officials of the Construction and Maintenance Board, wardens, security officers and non-teaching hostel staff. An action plan was chalked out for the upcoming session, with security measures given priority.
The major decisions taken in the meeting include the installation of CCTV cameras at newly identified strategic locations within the hostels. The move is expected to enable constant monitoring and prevent any potential malpractices. Additionally, to completely prevent unauthorised entry, the university will ensure the deployment of at least two police personnel and security staff at the entrance of each hostel. The chief warden stressed that strict action will be taken against students violating hostel discipline. These extensive security measures are designed to create a safer and more conducive environment for academic activities.
